Fine-tuning cell organelle dynamics during mitosis by small GTPases

Frontiers of Medicine 2022, Volume 16, Issue 3,   Pages 339-357 doi: 10.1007/s11684-022-0926-1

Abstract: During mitosis, the allocation of genetic material concurs with organelle transformation and distribution. The coordination of genetic material inheritance with organelle dynamics directs accurate mitotic progression, cell fate determination, and organismal homeostasis. Small GTPases belonging to the Ras superfamily regulate various cell organelles during division. Being the key regulators of membrane dynamics, the dysregulation of small GTPases is widely associated with cell organelle disruption in neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Recent discoveries shed light on the molecular properties of small GTPases as sophisticated modulators of a remarkably complex and perfect adaptors for rapid structure reformation. This review collects current knowledge on small GTPases in the regulation of cell organelles during mitosis and highlights the mediator role of small GTPase in transducing cell cycle signaling to organelle dynamics during mitosis.

Variable identification and automatic tuning of the main module of a servo system of parallel mechanism

YANG Zhiyong, XU Meng, HUANG Tian, NI Yanbing

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2007, Volume 2, Issue 1,   Pages 82-88 doi: 10.1007/s11465-007-0014-x

Abstract: The variables of the main module of a servo system for miniature reconfigurable parallel mechanism were identified and automatically tuned. With the reverse solution module of the translation, the module with the exerted translation joint was obtained, which included the location, velocity and acceleration of the parallelogram carriage-branch. The rigid dynamic reverse model was set as the virtual work principle. To identify the variables of the servo system, the triangle-shaped input signal with variable frequency was adopted to overcome the disadvantages of the pseudo-random number sequence, i.e., making the change of the vibration amplitude of the motor dramatically, easily impact the servo motor and make the velocity loop open and so on. Moreover, all the variables including the rotary inertia of the servo system were identified by the additive mass. The overshoot and rise time were the optimum goals, the limited changing load with the attitude was considered, and the range of the controller variables in the servo system was identified. The results of the experiments prove that the method is accurate.

Tuning nitrogen defects and doping sulfur in carbon nitride for enhanced visible light photocatalytic

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2023, Volume 17, Issue 1,   Pages 93-101 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2175-x

Abstract: Defect construction and heteroatom doping are effective strategies for improving photocatalytic activity of carbon nitride (g-C3N4). In this work, N defects were successfully prepared via cold plasma. High-energy electrons generated by plasma can produce N defects and embed sulfur atoms into g-C3N4. The N defects obviously promoted photocatalytic degradation performance that was 7.5 times higher than that of pure g-C3N4. The concentration of N defects can be tuned by different power and time of plasma. With the increase in N defects, the photocatalytic activity showed a volcanic trend. The g-C3N4 with moderate concentration of N defects exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity. S-doped g-C3N4 exhibited 11.25 times higher photocatalytic activity than pure g-C3N4. It provided extra active sites for photocatalytic reaction and improved stability of N defects. The N vacancy-enriched and S-doped g-C3N4 are beneficial for widening absorption edge and improving the separation efficiency of electron and holes.

Rules Auto-conditioning Fuzzy Controller

Cheng Jin,Zhang Chenghui,Xia Dongwei

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 9,   Pages 78-81

Abstract:

According to the fuzzy theory and practical experience, the authors propose a rules autoconditioning fuzzy controller, whose dynamic performance and stability are all prior to the conventional PID controller and the basic fuzzy controller. It is also shown that the controller has good disturbance rejection properties and insensitivity to plant parameter variations. Both simulation and engineering prove that it is feasible actually and convenient to put into practical control project.

Tuning porosity of coal-derived activated carbons for CO2 adsorption

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2022, Volume 16, Issue 9,   Pages 1345-1354 doi: 10.1007/s11705-022-2155-1

Abstract: A simple method was developed to tune the porosity of coal-derived activated carbons, which provided a model adsorbent system to investigate the volumetric CO2 adsorption performance. Specifically, the method involved the variation of the activation temperature in a K2CO3 induced chemical activation process which could yield activated carbons with defined microporous (< 2 nm, including ultra-microporous < 1 nm) and meso-micro-porous structures. CO2 adsorption isotherms revealed that the microporous activated carbon has the highest measured CO2 adsorption capacity (6.0 mmol∙g–1 at 0 °C and 4.1 mmol∙g–1 at 25 °C), whilst ultra-microporous activated carbon with a high packing density exhibited the highest normalized capacity with respect to packing volume (1.8 mmol∙cm−3 at 0 °C and 1.3 mmol∙cm–3 at 25 °C), which is significant. Both experimental correlation analysis and molecular dynamics simulation demonstrated that (i) volumetric CO2 adsorption capacity is directly proportional to the ultra-micropore volume, and (ii) an increase in micropore sizes is beneficial to improve the volumetric capacity, but may lead a low CO2 adsorption density and thus low pore space utilization efficiency. The adsorption experiments on the activated carbons established the criterion for designing CO2 adsorbents with high volumetric adsorption capacity.
